The ToolBank is a nonprofit program model facilitated by ToolBank USA that provides three primary functions for the charitable sector:

Tool Lending: The ToolBank lends tools of all kinds for use in volunteer projects, facility maintenance and improvement projects, community improvement events, and special events.

Tool Advocacy: ToolBank staff advocates for the complete and timely return of all borrowed tools, to guarantee the long-term sustainability of available inventory. Staff also seeks compensation for lost tools and tools returned late.

Tool Maintenance: The ToolBank performs routine maintenance and repairs on all equipment to ensure good condition and to extend the lifespan of the inventory. This function is typically performed by volunteers and community service workers.
By having quick access to a ToolBank tool inventory, nonprofits can more efficiently fulfill their mission.

ToolBank tools empower charitable organizations! With ToolBank tools, they can
ensure that all participating volunteers are properly equipped;
engage larger volunteer groups;
perform a broader scope of service projects;
engage more highly-skilled volunteers; and
eliminate tool purchase, repair, and storage costs.
ToolBank USA is a nonprofit organization charged to collaboratively create ToolBanks in other communities throughout the U.S., to strengthen their own local charitable sector. ToolBank USA services include:
Resource Provision: After 17 years of Atlanta Community ToolBank operations, ToolBank USA has fine-tuned the infrastructure for ToolBank implementation, including tool tracking software, an online tool request, best practices, and institutional knowledge. ToolBank USA also provides seed capital to implement a ToolBank in your community.
Nationwide Advocacy: ToolBank USA advocates for ToolBanks everywhere through leveraging the collective power of the ToolBank network for fundraising and tool purchasing. The ToolBank USA website serves as a forum for sharing best practices and fostering community among ToolBank locations.
Standardization: As the owner of the registered ToolBank name, ToolBank USA offers a strong and growing brand with a standardized interface that tool borrowers across the country can rely upon. Corporations favor cities where ToolBanks exist, as the familiar ToolBank interface is reliably similar in each city with a ToolBank.
