ToolBank USA Announces New Executive Director for Magic City ToolBank in Birmingham
BIRMINGHAM, AL — ToolBank USA is pleased to announce the appointment of Laura Quenelle as the new Executive Director of the Magic City ToolBank in Birmingham, Alabama. Quenelle brings more than 20 years of experience in nonprofit development, community planning, and organizational operations, along with deep roots in the Birmingham area.
The Magic City ToolBank plays a vital role in supporting nonprofit organizations across central Alabama by providing affordable access to tools and equipment needed to complete projects, mobilize volunteers, and strengthen neighborhoods. Under Quenelle’s leadership, the ToolBank will continue to expand its reach and deepen partnerships with organizations working to improve the quality of life and communities throughout the region.
“Laura’s background in community development and her passion for revitalizing neighborhoods align perfectly with the mission of the ToolBank,” said Trey Bearden, CEO of ToolBank USA. “Her experience and local perspective will help the Magic City ToolBank continue to grow as a trusted resource for nonprofits serving Birmingham and surrounding communities.”
Quenelle most recently provided development services to a startup nonprofit in Bessemer, Alabama, focused on affordable housing and community development. She previously served as Donor and Administrative Manager for Main Street Alabama, the statewide affiliate of the National Main Street Center, supporting downtown revitalization efforts across the state. Her earlier career includes municipal planning work with the City of Miami Beach and leadership roles with preservation- and design-focused nonprofits in Alabama.
She holds a Master of Science in Historic Preservation from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Historic Preservation from the Savannah College of Art & Design, and she is a credentialed Main Street America Revitalization Professional.
A Birmingham-area native, Quenelle enjoys traveling, thrift shopping, attending concerts, exploring historic neighborhoods, and spending time with her two teenage children. She is also a long-time Girl Scouts volunteer, serving as both a troop leader and summer camp director. When it comes to tools, her favorite is a sledgehammer, a fitting symbol for getting big jobs done.
As Executive Director, Quenelle will oversee the strategic direction, operations, fundraising, and community engagement efforts of the Magic City ToolBank, ensuring nonprofit partners have the tools they need to build, repair, serve, and respond to natural disasters more effectively.
