Founded in 2025, the Detroit ToolBank is the latest addition to the national ToolBank network, created to equip local nonprofits, schools, and community-based organizations with the tools they need to bring about lasting positive change. What began as a vision to expand access to critical resources in Detroit has grown into a warehouse of possibility—where organizations can borrow tools and equipment to power their most ambitious projects. Thanks to the generous support of local corporate partners like Carhartt and Ford Philanthropy, the Detroit ToolBank has become a reality!

Through our signature tool lending program, member agencies save valuable funds by borrowing instead of buying, allowing them to invest more directly into their mission and the communities they serve. From neighborhood cleanups and community gardens to large-scale volunteer projects, the Detroit ToolBank makes it possible for more good work to get done.

At ToolBank, we believe that access should never be a barrier to impact. By sharing our resources with qualified organizations, we’re leveling the playing field—removing traditional barriers, supporting service-minded leaders, and ensuring that Detroit’s volunteers and changemakers have the tools they need to strengthen our city.
