MLK Day of Service across the ToolBank Network
On Monday, January 15, 2024, while many people enjoyed a day off, employees from TEKsystems volunteered at 10 different ToolBank locations for their Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. Volunteers partnered up with the ToolBank teams at each of the following warehouse locations: Atlanta, Baltimore, Charlotte, Chicago, Cincinnati, Houston, New Orleans, Phoenix, Richmond, and Tampa. Groups performed various warehouse jobs as well as a few picnic table build projects to benefit local nonprofit organizations. Each location had between 20 and 40 volunteers from TEKsystems.
TEKsystems, a global provider of business, technology, and talent solutions headquartered in Hanover, MD., has been donating their time and talents to the local Baltimore ToolBank for many years. Their employees have also volunteered with the Cincinnati, Ohio ToolBank over the past year. However, this year their Corporate Social Responsibility, Workforce Development & Foundation Management, Alice Zients, decided to expand their employee volunteer initiatives across the ToolBank network. Zients cites their employees’ passion for giving back to the local community and the alignment with the mission of ToolBank as a reason for this year’s partnership. ToolBank’s mission is to serve community-based organizations and their volunteers by providing tools, equipment, and expertise to empower their most ambitious goals. ToolBank also serves the community during times of natural disaster by providing tools and equipment at no cost to their disaster relief partners.
Patty Russart, CEO of ToolBank USA, said, “This year’s MLK Day of Service with TEKsystems shows the continued desire and importance of corporate volunteerism. Many ToolBanks across our network have a small but passionate staff ranging from 1 to 5 employees. They simply couldn’t complete many extra activities without the help of dedicated volunteers.” TEKsystems will have approximately 300 employees volunteer on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. This Day of Service marks a corporate partnership with ToolBank that will hopefully inspire other groups to take action and work with their local ToolBanks.
