Progress

Week one of my experiment/fundraiser is in the books! For the “Lace Up Like It’s 1995!” campaign, I logged 10.10 miles this week, five of them running. I ran five of seven days and clocked in at these times:

4/1 = 8:34/mi

4/2 = 8:08/mi

4/4 = 8:01/mi

4/5 = 8:55/mi

4/7 = 8:35/mi

Average = 8:27/mi

10.10 miles gets me 3% to my miles goal this week. Don’t forget that I will ramp up my mileage over time, so I am actually ahead of my weekly progress goal by 6.10 miles (152%)!

I launched the fundraising page and secured $1,111 ($772 donated, $339 pledged) from 9 donors. This gets me 11% to my fundraising goal. Donations have been incredible but I thought there would be more distinct donors at this point. We’ll see if we can move the needle over time! If you’re reading this…

Give me a hand here!

Dedication

This week’s miles are dedicated to my tireless co-worker, thought-partner and marketing extraordinaire, Julie Italiano. Without her support in my role, I’m not sure where I (or ToolBank USA) would be!

What’s in the Walkman?

Dinosaur Jr.’s “Without a Sound”. Appropriately enough, the first track is, “Feel the Pain.” That sounds about right for week one of this campaign!

Reflections

Well… I ran whole miles all week! There’s that. I haven’t shaken leg stiffness and I’m panting like a fool during and after running, but I can see progress ahead. It’s been fairly chilly out except for one day and I’m happy to get some conditioning in before it gets too hot. I look forward to feeling light and breezy when I run (like I remember feeling). I don’t think that sets in until month two, so I have a ways to go yet.

ToolBank Disaster Services Deployment

This week’s feature was on the first ever TDS deployment in April 2014 in Conway, AR following an EF4 tornado that devastated a swath of the state.

Read the full deployment post here.

Support

Thank you to all my donors this week, which includes all three of my brothers and my ride or die:

Stephanie Eaddy (ride or die), Jacob Smock (youngest brother), Barton Smock (oldest brother), JP Smock (older middle brother and mortal enemy ages 9 -11), Julie Italiano, Kat Pepmeyer, Megan Kruse, and Shannon Frede.

See you soon and don’t forget to keep your sneaks laced up (like it’s 1995)!

A must-have for all fuzz rockers starting a running challenge!
