Announced at the Detroit Auto Show, this collaboration is focused on long-term impact through workforce development, community building, and access to tools and training, all critical components of America’s Essential Economy.

A Shared Commitment to Workers and the Skilled Trades

For more than a century, Ford and Carhartt have stood alongside America’s workers. This new partnership builds on that legacy by investing in the next generation of skilled trades professionals and community leaders.

“This is such a great match because we’re all committed to making sure workers have the best equipment and gear that they can get. ToolBank USA is inspiring people to do more with their hands while changing lives in our local communities,” said Ford CEO Jim Farley. “Who better to expand their mission and bring the next hub to this great city than two iconic Detroit companies, Ford and Carhartt.”

Together, the partners are addressing common barriers to entering the trades, such as access to tools, training, and resources, while helping to elevate the value and visibility of hands-on careers.

Expanding Pathways Into the Workforce

As part of this collaboration:

  • Ford is expanding fast-track training programs by partnering with local high schools and community colleges to help students prepare for careers as auto technicians and skilled trades professionals.

  • Through Ford Philanthropy and Ford dealers’ partnership with TechForce Foundation, Ford Auto Tech Scholars receive financial support to help cover the cost of credentials, tools, and transportation, which are critical resources that help students stay on track and succeed.

  • Carhartt is outfitting Ford Auto Tech Scholars with durable, custom workwear, reinforcing pride, professionalism, and preparedness as they enter the workforce.

Together, these efforts create a more accessible and supportive pathway for students pursuing skilled careers.

Launching the Detroit ToolBank

A cornerstone of this partnership is the launch of the Detroit ToolBank. The Detroit ToolBank will serve as a centralized tool-lending hub, providing community-based organizations, trade education partners, and volunteer groups with access to professional-grade tools at no cost. By handling tool storage, maintenance, and logistics, ToolBank USA helps organizations focus their time and resources on impact rather than overhead.

In addition to supporting volunteer projects and community revitalization efforts, the Detroit ToolBank will double as a hands-on training environment, giving emerging tradespeople opportunities to build confidence and practical skills using real equipment in real-world settings.

To further support this work, Ford is contributing an F-150 equipped with Pro Power Onboard, helping extend the reach and efficiency of ToolBank operations across Southeast Michigan.

Building the Future, Together

This partnership reflects the power of aligned values and collective action. By combining Ford’s leadership in workforce development, Carhartt’s commitment to equipping workers, and ToolBank USA’s mission to provide access to tools and expertise, this collaboration is creating meaningful opportunities for individuals and communities across Detroit.

We’re deeply grateful to Ford, Ford Philanthropy, and Carhartt for their trust, leadership, and shared belief that access to tools and training can change lives. Together, we’re building stronger communities and empowering the next generation to do more with their hands.
